All shows are 18+ unless its a special situation.
Anyone can get into our shows with a parent or guardian
Give us EXACT DATES you are looking for. Give us alternatives.
Production cost/rental is $150. No exceptions. This covers sound and door. We often take a cut of the door as well, not always but this will be negotiated once show is booked.
Three band bills. Of course there are special situations, but we try to avoid the situations that create 4 band bills.
Shows start at 9.30pm. 20-30 minute turnover between bands.
One of our amazing sound guys will meet you at load-in.
We use no outside sound guys, national acts/special situations aside.
If you have an unusual set up, let us know about this in your booking email and send along a stage plot before your show.
Never come to a show expecting to use our house Gear.
This is for open mic ONLY.
Each performer will recieve 2 free PBRs and a 10% food discount.
If you are a touring band we suggest you try to set up a show through a local band. SHOW TRADES!! You are a thousand times more likely to play at the Strutt if your name is coming to us through one of our local connections. Check out local blogs DIT Kalamazoo and Mostly Midwest to learn about Kzoo or Grand Rapids bands, there are bands of all genres in this town, who would love to do a show trade with you.
Though we work hard at promoting shows, you are the promoter. If you make no effort to bring people out (no posters, no facebook promo, etc) then you will not be invited back. We will help you flyer, but if you don't give us a flyer, then we can't get them to our street team. We have press lists and all of that available, and we expect you to contact these people.
When booking shows we are looking for hi fidelity recordings and video, good press, and a history in Kalamazoo/West Michigan. We know you work hard on your emails explaining your sound and what not, but its really not our focus. We want to hear and see you at your best. The last thing we want to do is read bands pontificating about themselves. Words are inadequate in describing the essence of music, we can only come upon this through listening.
Due to the overwhelming amount of submissions we get, we do not respond to every booking request. We read over everything, and we will contact you if we are interested. There are a multitude of venues/house venues in Kalamazoo to begin building your following before playing the Strutt. If you don't hear from us, develop a following then hit us up again. Be persistent, sometimes things just slip through the cracks!
Make the most effort you can to bring people out. The large majority or our income is from people drinking at shows. When you book a show and bring out less than 40 people the venue is losing money. We are here because we love local music and our community. We'd love to help everyone but can only afford help those that help themselves. Understand that YOU are the one keeping us in business. Together we can make this place grow and remain a Kalamazoo fixture for years to come!!
